Hidden Canyon |
The Hidden We Seek
The next morning, we departed early so that hopefully we could go to some more places in a day. This time, the destination called Hidden Canyon. It somehow remind me of Green Canyon in West Java. A very dramatic and beauty without comparison place which I visitted long time ago.
Only an hour from our hotel, located at Beji Guwang village, Sukawati district, Gianyar. The traffic was not so bad, that is why we could reach the place quickly. We could even get breakfast before reaching the parking lot.
Before we go the the canyon, we need to pay for the ticket with Rp 15.000 each and it is compulsary to be accompanied by a tourguide. His name is Mr.Nyoman, a common Balinese name. Then we walked down toward the river. Once I stepped foot on this shallow river, I could only see nothing but a preserved nature just like I imagined before. There is only steps down to the river and a small balinese praying square that are man made. The rest is just relaxing yet adventurous scene onsight.
Luckily, there is no crowd of tourist visiting this place at the same time we were there. Only a bunch of young Indonesian just hundred meters ahead of us, and some bules that took short path of the river stream.
The Trio |
First we will see a tall green bushes in the middle of the river, then the canyon started to show up. The shape is quite unique, it is like wall of naturally crafted stone on both side, crafted by river stream for thousand of years. Quite dramatic though, we had to be careful with our steps. Some spots could be slippery as we hike on the side of the canyon.
At one point, we had to cross from one side to another by a rope bridge made by those trackers long time ago. Afraid of falling down, I held the rope tight and moved forward slowly. We crossed the river on the rope one person at a time. And of course not to forget taking photos on each cool spots.
As we continue our journey on the canyon, we found a small pretty waterfall with a knee deep of water below. A good spot I said, we spent quite long on this site. Since I lost my glasses in the water when I started to swim. I stupidly forgotten that I put my glasses on my shirt as I swam along. Mr.Wayan tried hard to find my only glasses, he explored every corner in the river. Even when I said it's okay to leave it. He still put both of his hands on the bottom of the river stream. The rest of us just enjoyed the waterfall for a little longer.
So, we couldn't find it in the end. I had to continue the adventure with blurry eyes. I guess it doesn't matter, as long as I got good pictures to share later.
We took the long path of the journey, which approximarely 1,5 km away. A lot of nice spots we found on our way, I even thought that this place might have big snake somewhere hidden. Just like in the movie Anaconda, one that eat people for meal.
The scenery is just awesome, so natural yet a little bit scarry. This could be the adventure I was looking for. A bit of danger mixed with natural beauty, truly adventure of a lifetime. Hope we can get out of here and see civilization safely.
Some places made us go under big stones through the river a waist deep. Dark and cold, and of course wet. Scarry yet fun, complete feeling in the middle of wildernes.
Right before the end of the journey, a two split ways in front of us. One on the left looks like the continuity of the canyon with big rocks that is impossible for us to get trough. The other one going straight as the river branched into small canal with muddy ground. But still, the dramatic scene was not ending as we go straight. This time we see narrower path with soil walls on both side and some tree's root going out and down. Just like in the movie Tomb Rider, Cradle of Life.
Finally the end is on the way, we climbed on the left side and saw some houses and small natural fountain, which only allowed to wash our faces but not the feet.
We followed a small irrigation canal until reaching a green ricefield. And continue walking about 1 km away to reach the parking point. It is morally obligued for us to pay the tourguide service Mr.Wayan. Only that he did not mention how much we should pay him. So we paid accordingly.
